BACKGROUND

Australia Singapore Business Council (SA) Inc. (ASBC) is one of the overseas Singapore Clubs. There are such clubs in all the States of Australia and many parts of the world. ASBC was formerly known as Raffles Club, established in 1991 with the following aims:

• To promote and encourage interaction between ex-Singaporeans
  
• To provide assistance to newly arrived Singaporean immigrants and students
  
• To promote the well-being and interests of ex-Singaporeans and Singaporeans in South Australia
  
• To provide members with opportunities to meet and interact
  
• To serve as a link with Singapore and similar organisations in Australia.

  PRESENT STATUS

  In 1994 Raffles Club took on the additional role of serving the business community of Australia, and became ASBC with the additional following aims:

• To promote friendship, goodwill and understanding between business communities of Australia and Singapore
  
• To promote and encourage trade, investment, technical and economic co-operation, and tourism between Australia and Singapore
  
• To maintain, promote and extend industrial and commercial relations between individuals, firms, companies, institutions, and associations in Australia and Singapore
